If you need to use a scaffolding tower to carry out the work on the job, you must read this statemement and adhere completely to it's guidance before commencing the work.

Previous and current weather conditions can have an effect on the ground on which the tower is due to stand and also the tower itself. It is extremely important that neither are adversely affected by the conditions and that the scaffolding tower is completely safe to use correctly. If you are confident that the conditions render the tower safe to use, then you should select 'Yes' and proceed with the questionaire.

For the tower to be used safely, the ground on which it is erected must be level, firm, stable and clear of and obstacles or obstructions. You should confirm here whether this is so or not.

If you have any comments to make regarding the weather or the effect it has had or may have on the tower, then you should note them here.

The whole structure of the scaffolding tower should be checked carefully to ensure it's integrity.
The scaffolding tower must sit level both vertically and horizontally. If it doesn't, then it must not be used until the situation has been rectified. Scaffolding towers must be erected within their safe working height limits and load parameters. You must check all the above and confirm here. |

Check all brakes on the scaffolding tower to ensure they are locked and that the castors are in full contact with the ground, bearing an equal load of the tower's weight.

The adjustable legs must not be extended beyond their limits and should be clean and correctly lubricated to ensure easy adjustment when required.
|
|
Where/when required, stabilizers should be fitted to the tower to ensure its stability.
If fitted, the stabilizers must be in firm contact with the ground, bear an equal share of the weight and all connections must be fully tightened. |

Braces must be fitted in the correct number and pattern as per the manufacturer's instructions. All connections must be fully tightened.

|
Ensure that any gates are correctly fitted and lock securely when fastened.
|
|
All ladders must be securely attached to the tower, undamaged and clean from any grease, paint or chemicals that might cause a person to slip when using it.
|
|
If there are any trap doors or hinged openings onto the tower platform, these should be positioned over the ladder/access point with the hinges positioned to allow free access/egress via the opening.
Any wind lock devices should be engaged. |

The tower platform must be undamaged, fitted correctly and clean from any grease or trip hazards.
|
|
Guardrails should be fitted on every platform with the main guardrail at a height of at least 950mm and with any gaps less than 470mm.
|
|
All platforms should have toe boards fitted to prevent the risks of falling objects.
|
|
Any ties fitted should be of adequate strength and securely fitted at correct intervals.
